Broncos fans have made their pick at Quarterback, so which position is next?

With all the talk of Kirk Cousins becoming the next quarterback of the Denver Broncos and Elway using the 5th overall pick on Baker Mayfield, it seems the Broncos are set for the next 15 years. Back to reality though. Kirk Cousins brings with him a bill of 30 million a year which in itself is astronomical for a quarterback that began his career 2-8 his first two seasons before taking a turn for the better, winning 9, 8 and 7 games the next 3 years. I wonder if any of our current crop of quarterbacks have started 1-3 and could be a cheaper option if he gets a chance ( hint – he wears 12 )? As Zac Stevens twitted January 11 from his account :-

I hope those 6 players can play both offense and defense because we won’t have enough salary cap to pay a full quota of players. With this in mind and the 5th overall pick, maybe the draft is a better way to go or get a cheaper free agent. I personally would pursue Teddy Bridgewater and allow Paxton Lynch to be named starter as soon as the draft has concluded. Bridgewater would be able to take a year to help Lynch, learn the playbook himself and overall recover with no pressure to prove himself. With obvious holes across multiple positions, I think 30 million invested at quarterback will be a mistake.

A right tackle is more of a need than quarterback

A more pressing position of need is right tackle. The Saints are a prime example of how a nasty right tackle can finish off your offensive line transforming your run game from moderate to explosive.

Yes, this includes some rare bad tackling from the Rams, but the right side of the Saints allows Kamara to break out and do his thing. The Broncos have the oline to perform as good as this with 1 exception – a right tackle. Projected free agent right tackles are slim pickings; however, if the Broncos can get Ja’Wuan James from the Dolphins, it’s an instant line upgrade plus James is only 26 years old.

Draft players to fill the holes around the quarterback, which improves the entire team, bring in free agents for the rest. Be smart with the money and picks.
