The AFC West Champion, Denver Broncos squared off for the third time against Division Rival, the then San Diego Chargers*, after splitting games during the regular season(28-20 W in San Diego and a 20-27 L in Denver), the Broncos broke the tie with a 24-17 win in the Divisional Round of the AFC Playoffs.
Peyton Manning threw two first half touchdown passes to help stake the Broncos to a 14-0 halftime lead. Manning connected with Demaryius Thomas (8-54) on a 2 yard first quarter score and a second quarter hook up with Wes Welker (6-38). Manning finished the day 25/36 for 230 yards, the two scores and an interception while battling a brisk wind. Julius Thomas led the team in receiving with 76 yards on 6 catches. Knowshon Moreno led the team on the ground with 82 yards on 23 carries and a 4th quarter scoring run.
Shaun Phillips sacked his former teammate, Philip Rivers twice and Malik Jackson and Jeremy Mincey also sacked the Chargers quarterback. Champ Bailey, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Danny Trevathan and Quentin Jammer each had 4 total tackles.
Matt Prater added a 45 yard field goal and three extra points.
*This was the last playoff game the San Diego Chargers ever played.
