Game Day History: January 10

1987 Season 1/10/1988

Future Hall of Fame Quarterback, John Elway passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Broncos defeated the Houston Oilers 34-10 in the Divisional Round of the 1987 NFL Playoffs. Elway finished the day with 259 yards passing while going 14/25 and 8 yards rushing. Clarence Kay (3-57) caught the two touchdown passes of 27 and 1 yard respectively. Vance Johnson led the team in receiving with 105 yards on 4 catches. Sammy Winder led the team on the ground with 46 yards off of 13 attempts. Gene Lang (3-(-6)) added a touchdown run of 1 yard. Rich Karlis kicked field goals of 43 and 23 yards to go with four extra points.

Defensively, Mark Haynes and Karl Mecklenburg each picked off the Future Hall of Fame Quarterback Warren Moon, and Steve Wilson recovered a Moon fumble. Rick “Rico” Dennison led the team with 8 tackles from his linebacker position.
