Game Day History: September 7

1998

The Denver Broncos took the field as the defending Super Bowl Champions for the first time ever as they beat the New England Patriots 27-21 in the 1998 season opener.

Terrell Davis ran for 75 yards on 22 carries with 2 touchdowns. John Elway was 22/34 for 257 yards and  touchdown pass to Shannon Sharpe.  Sharpe caught 5 passes for 51 yards while Ed McCaffrey led the team with 7 catches for 97 yards.

Bill Romanowski (pictured above) sacked Drew Bledsoe twice while Maa Tanuvasa got to him once.

Jason Elam added a pair of field goals (53,42) and 3 extra points.
