INJURY REPORT WEEK 1 PRESEASON
As preseason is only a day away for the Denver Broncos, the NFL starts releasing injury reports for the up and coming action. Here are a few of the key injuries from camp, including the rest of the AFC West and preseason week 1 opponents the Chicago Bears.
TJ Ward (hamstring)
Devontae Booker ( wrist )
Jamaal Charles (Knee)
Bernard Pierce (Hamstring )
Shane Ray (left wrist)
Shaq Barrett (hip)
Todd Davis (shoulder)
As the Broncos fly out to play the Chicago Bears, the new offensive system will be missing a few pieces. With Devontae Booker, Jamaal Charles and Bernard Pierce missing, it will be a nice opportunity for the likes of Juwan Thompson and Stevan Ridley to push forward for roster spots or show teams they’re worth a punt if they don’t make the 53.
Connor McGovern will continue to substitute for the recovering Matt Paradis at center. The defense will also be missing TJ Ward and Todd Davis. I’m looking forward to the very impressive Zaire Anderson and Quentin Gause to fill in for Davis and Will Parks and Jamal Carter for the injured Ward. Justin Simmons should also be in the mix at safety.
With Shane Ray missing up to 8 weeks with ligament damage in his left wrist and Shaq Barrett already missing 2 months with a serious hip injury, the Broncos get the chance to unleash the pass rushing stable on the Chicago Bears offensive line. Vontarrius Dora and Kasim Edebali should see considerable reps at “Sam” linebacker with the camp breakthrough DeMarcus Walker subbing in for All-world Von Miller at “Will” who will be on a snap count.
OL Kyle Long ( ankle ) – Out vs Broncos
OL Eric Kush ( hamstring ) – IR
RB Jeremy Langford ( ankle ) – Questionable vs Broncos
RB Benny Cunningham ( undisclosed ) – Questionable vs Broncos
RB Joel Bouagnon ( undisclosed ) – IR
With 3 running backs missing, it will be hard to gauge if Denver’s run defense is on the mend after last years awful stats and this year’s hopeful player improvements. Expect a heavy dose of rookie RB Tariq Cohen with a few appearances from starting RB Jordan Howard. With starting LG Long out, expect the Broncos to attack the strong Bears Oline from its left hand side as the Bears have starting LT Charles Leno and newly acquired LG Cyril Richardson compared to RT Bobbie Massie, RG Josh Sitton and C Cody Whitehair on the other side.
The Rest Of The West
Notes On Chargers
The Chargers sent back-up center Dillon De Boer to IR on Tuesday morning. He joins back-up TE Asante Cleveland and 2nd round draft pick Forrest Lamp out for the season. Wide receiver Geremy Davis and linebacker Chris Landrum are definitely out vs Seattle along with 1st round draft pick Mike Williams. Wide receiver Isiah Burse (former Bronco), RB Melvin Gordon and SS Darell Stuckey are all listed as questionable to play vs Seattle.
Notes On Chiefs
The Chiefs sent linebacker Reshard Cliett ( Finger ) to IR Tuesday. Defensive lineman Chris Jones (knee), linebackers Tamba Hali (knee), Dadi Nicolas (knee), and offensive lineman Parker Ehinger (knee) are all on the PUP list for the Chiefs. Tight end Travis Kelce (knee), safety Eric Berry (heel), cornerback De’Vante Basuby (ankle), defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon (slight shin splints), and defensive tackle Bennie Logan (knee) were all missing from practise Tuesday and are questionable to play vs 49ers.
