Broncos wide receiver Cody Latimer is entering his 4th season in the NFL. He is hoping to improve his game production in the 2017 season, after catching only 16 passes for 158 yards and 1 touchdown in 34 total games.
Latimer caught a touchdown pass today and credited his quarterback for seeing the right read. “A good check by Trevor. He saw man-to-man press and he trusts in me and threw a great ball …”
He knows that, just because he caught a touchdown, doesn’t give him the right to lose focus. “Like I said, I’ve been working on consistency … All through practice, bringing the same thing every day, that gets your juices flowing. When you make a play like that in the end zone, a touchdown, you have to keep it going.”
A big storyline during training camp has been the addition of former head coach Gary Kubiak, as the team’s new Senior Personnel Advisor. Latimer was happy to see Kubiak back in the building: “It was great. I spoke with him and when he left he spoke to me … it’s good to have him back around.”
The Broncos are holding a scrimmage tomorrow and the receiver is interested in who performs well: “I feel like we’re scrimmaging every day really, but I’m looking forward to it,” said the receiver. “… we’ll see who stands out.”
Latimer doesn’t feel a big difference in who throws him the ball. “You’re just used to it. They throw the ball and it’s our job to go catch it and make a play.”
“I think it’s great. We have some great athletes in the room, some great receivers,” Latimer said of the receiver competition. … “The young rooks that were brought in are amazing athletes making big plays. The guys that have been here are making plays—we’re all contributing to special teams and looking good.”
The Broncos’ first preseason game is August 10 vs the Chicago Bears. Latimer hopes to perform better each week.
