With the 101st pick of the 2017 NFL draft the Denver Broncos selected cornerback Brendan Langley out of Lamar. Langley is a 6’ 201lb corner will provide depth to the “No Fly Zone” as he gets his feet wet advancing from the FCS (formerly 1-AA) to the NFL.
The Marietta, Georgia native who originally signed with Georgia was named to the 2016 All-Southland conference team as both a cornerback and as a punt returner. He will likely get a look at both of those with the Broncos along with kick-coverage duties on special teams.
Langley saw minimal snaps on the offensive side of the ball for Lamar, but his lone touch in 2016 was a 55 yard touchdown run vs. San Houston State. In 2015, he had 4 catches for 51 yards and a touchdown reception.
Via twitter, Broncos GM, John Elway called Langley “an athletic corner with a big upside”, and mentioned that he was also “a very good returner”. Defensive back Coach Marcus Robertson called Langley, “tough, fast and physical”, and said that, “he’s exactly what we look for at the cornerback position.”
Langley called Denver his “team of choice”, he mentioned Aqib Talib, Chris Harris Jr, and Bradley Roby as guys he could learn from and help him, “take his game to the next level”. He stated that he had “mean-streak” and brings “a lot of physicality” to the field and looks forward to contributing on defense and on special teams. Oh, and he said that he has seen snow a few times growing up in Georgia.
Brendan Langley, our 3rd rd pick from Lamar, is an athletic corner with a big upside. He's also a very good returner.
