Elway shakes up the Personnel Department

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have made the following changes to their personnel department, Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway announced. The lone drafted wide receiver we have as a starter is Demaryius Thomas. One must wonder what it is exactly ex-WR Schiralli does to not be fired? Ten years and one starting WR.

Tom Heckert has been named Senior Personnel Advisor. Heckert, who will enter his 27th NFL season in 2017, served as the Broncos’ director of pro personnel during the last four seasons. Before arriving in Denver, he led an NFL personnel department for 12 seasons in Philadelphia and Cleveland. He started his NFL career with Miami as a pro and college scout in 1991.

A.J. Durso has been named Director of Pro Personnel. Durso was the Broncos’ assistant director of pro personnel under Heckert during the last two seasons after serving as pro scouting coordinator for the club from 2013-14. Before coming to Denver, Durso spent three seasons in Cleveland as a pro scout and five years in football operations with Seattle.

Brian Stark has been named Director of College Scouting. Stark will enter his sixth season with the Broncos in 2017 after serving as an area scout from 2012-15 and as national scout last year. Stark joined the Broncos after working for three seasons as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for Yale University (2009-11) and nine seasons in various coaching capacities at San Diego State University (2000-08).

Nick Schiralli has been named Eastern Regional Scout. Entering his 10th season as a college scout for the Broncos, he previously scouted the Atlantic area with the franchise. Schiralli joined the Broncos after spending two years (2006-07) as an offensive graduate assistant at the University of Florida, where he also was a four-year letterman as a wide receiver from 1996-99. He also worked at the University of North Carolina from 2002-05 after two seasons coaching high school football.

Darren Mougey has been named Western Regional Scout. Mougey will enter his sixth season with the Broncos in 2017 and his third year as a scout. Originally hired by the club as a personnel intern in 2012, Mougey has experience as a scout for both the pro and college personnel departments. Before coming to Denver, he competed in training camps as a wide receiver with the Arizona Cardinals (2010) and Atlanta Falcons (2009).

Bryan Chesin has been named Midwest Area Scout. Chesin, who will enter his fourth year with the Broncos in 2017, was a player personnel assistant for the club during the last two seasons after working as a video/operations assistant in 2014. Prior to joining the Broncos, Chesin was a producer intern for NFL Films in Mount Laurel, N.J. He also spent four seasons on the coaching staff at his alma mater Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Patrick Walsh has been named Player Personnel Assistant. Before serving as a personnel intern for Denver in 2016, he worked as the offensive line coach/run game coordinator and recruiting coordinator for Humboldt State University from 2013-15. Walsh also previously coached at the University of Texas-El Paso (Assistant Offensive Line) in 2012, Pacific University (Tight Ends) in 2011 and Foothill College (Defensive Line/Special Teams Coordinator) in 2010.
