The Denver Broncos added Lousiana Tech WR Carlos Henderson in the third round at pick number 82. While there the 5’1-“, 199 lb Henderson had an 82 carries for 1,535-19, 18.7 YPR.
Henderson returned kicks throughout college, scoring three times and finishing No. 2 in the nation with a 32.2-yard average in 2016. He lead the nation with 48 missed tackles.
John Elway on Henderson:
“Carlos is a tough guy, and he’s got a lot of production. He brings a physicality with him, he can really run, he’s a returner and plays special teams.”
On how diverse of an offensive threat Henderson is
JE: “There’s no question he has the ability to do that. The run after the catch—anytime you can get the ball in a guy’s hands like that and he’s got the ability to take it to the house, that’s something that you always want. It’s not always easy to catch and run with the ball, and that’s what he likes to do. He creates the big plays and that’s what we really liked about him.”
He had this to say after being drafted. “I just feel like I’m going to be able to help the organization. I feel like I’m going to help improve them as much as I can. I’m just here to prove as much as I can.”
On returning kicks and whether he thinks he can make an impact at wide receiver from Day 1
“Yes, sir. Wherever, they decide to put me. I can play outside and I can play inside. It’s just wherever the team defends. Wherever they’re going to put me at, I’m going to work on that spot 100 percent.”
On his reaction when he received the call from the Broncos
“I love the Broncos. I’m going to do my best to help the Broncos. I’m just proud to be a Bronco. I promised these guys they won’t regret picking me in this draft.”
On his 326-yard, five-touchdown performance last season against UMass
“That was the number at the time of need. I was born to play this game. I was just born to play this game of football. I’m just looking forward to for the chance with the Broncos to get to another Super Bowl and I’m excited and happy to be a Bronco. I’m just excited right now.”
